Week One Recap of In Bocca Launch.
It never ceases to amaze me how awesome it is that we live in this time when it comes to creation. To be able to shoot a film, edit it, build a platform for it, and share it with the world, by yourself and the help of Time Warner Cable is amazing.
Who am I kidding, Time Warner never helped anyone.
(I’m a bit salty this week. It’s been a long one. No hard feelings Time Warner. Please dont down-throttle my internet.)
Ok, so week one is done and here is how it all went down:
The film was uploaded on my TravelClast travel channel on Youtube. I decided to launch it there instead of a new channel because I had a small but tuned in audience that I know would like the film. At the moment it is just over 3k views which is more then most of the films for their initial release, but still not beating the one on New Orleans Mardi Gras which I’m a bit surprised at.
After the launch of the site I added a bunch of trailers, promos and downloadable GIFs to make it easy for people to share the film on their own social media platform. It was nice to see friends using them and having our film pop up in our feed. Very cool.
I’ve never marketed any of my films before so I enlisted the help of Jackie Farris who heads the marketing for the non-profit devision of Cornerstone to get some help. We did a very low budget Google Ad and Facebook Ad promotion, along with reaching out to some celebrities connected with food or Italy via Cameo to take a look at the film. I was amazed at the response which was nothing less then joy infused.
We created a separate YouTube channel dedicated to In Bocca as more people became interested in the project, especially chef’s, who wanted to contribute. We’ve since have done several ZOOM interviews with them about their new normal in Quarantine and what they thought about the project, and our cooking as non-chefs. The interviews have been my favorite part of the project so far, I didn’t expect them to be so profound and heart-warming. We’ll be releasing them over the next few weeks.
At the end of week one we couldn’t be happier with how the project is growing, considering we weren’t expecting anything and none of this was planned. We’re currently in discussion with two production companies to develop two different series with them, and it seems my dreams of becoming Bourdain are getting a little closer.
Thankful, first and foremost, is what we are. Thankful for all the positive support, thankful that we have the ability to put this all together, and thankful that Italy is on the mend with the rest of the world. I’m an optimist so I enjoy getting my hopes up and keeping them there. With any luck we’re all past the worst of this pandemic and maybe coming out the other end better for it.
Stay tuned as we continue to grow, adding recipes, updates, and new videos each day.
A Presto!
